'The castle of goodman Bruyn' (after Gustave Doré)
Ink and bleach on heavyweight paper
42cm x 29.7cm
Influenced by American and German expressionist (particularly Anselm Kiefer and Cy Twombly, the Arte Povera of Jannis Kounellis and Antoni Tapies and the illustrations of Gustave Doré) Robin's work considers the material and emotive value of Art and challenges the objectification of the subject. With his diverse style he revisits the subject matter of the old masters through the examination and exploration of classic literature and myth and renders them in his own emotive and fractionally abstract manner.
