Antiques Alphabet Quilt
A sampler quilt comprising twenty-four full-sized block patterns, small alphabet squares, outer border of words. Each block design is highlighted with appliqued red fabric and is completed with redwork embroidery.
My father showed me how to use a sewing machine when I was ten and I started making my own clothes in my teens. Later I became interested in knitting, sewing, bobbin lace and crochet and in the early 1990s I attended classes on patchwork. After entering a quilt in an exhibition in Harrogate in 1994, there was interest in the 3-D fuchsia blocks that made up the quilt and so I started to produce fuchsia kits for people to make up themselves. I also taught Hardanger embroidery to Adult Education classes and found a demand for Hardanger kits of my own design.
In 1996 I ceased to be a school science teacher and began trading as Patch Flora in Luton, Bedfordshire, with the fuchsia for my logo. I expanded the range of my applique designs and Hardanger kits for sale and began to publish articles in needlework magazines. I soon became a regular trader at needlework shows from Exeter to Edinburgh. Discerning a need for reliable tuition I started a programme of classes and workshops at home that has run ever since. As you will see as you browse my web site my range has expanded over the years to include mobiles, floral motifs, butterflies, angels, trapunto, redwork and fused work. All the designs are my unique Patch Flora designs.
In 2007, I and Patch Flora moved to Barnstaple, Devon, where I recently started a second web site.
