I worked for several years as a pottery decorator. After the potteries closed and several career changes later I returned to education as a mature student to achieve a life-long ambition to study Fine Art. I graduated from Plymouth College of Art with an honours degree in 2007. Since then I have been painting canvases mostly in acrylic and enjoy the freedom that painting on a large scale gives me.
Often described as 'energetic and dynamic' my work is influenced by natural land formations and elements, the flux of land and water and paths formed by erosion. I enjoy the patterns and colours that I see in the landscape, often abstracting the essence of a place, exploring materials and processes as I go. Larger paintings catching the feeling of movement, usually executed quickly and spontaneously.
I like to continue learning new skills and in 2010 I joined Dartington Printmakers. This has expanded my practice in the use of textured collagraphs and illustrative drawing skills required in drypoint prints. These skills have informed my approach to painting and has given me new direction.
I have exhibited my work locally and participated in Open Studios events in Devon. I have recently moved to a new studio at Hannah's at Seale Hayne near Newton Abbot.
