A useful handbag with an embroidered panel inspired by the vibrancy of cosmos flowers against an autumn sky.
Green Silk Handbag
This handbag glows - hand painted silk that has been enriched and manipulated with free motion embroidery
I am a textile designer/maker living and working in Devon.
A lifelong addiction to textiles began to show more direction while studying for an HND in Spatial Design at Somerset College of Arts and Technology. I began designing embroidered textiles to place within interior schemes and realised I was much more interested in the textiles than the interior design! I now work full-time as a textile artist and tutor.
The inspiration for my textiles comes mainly from natural forms and textures. From the tiniest of seeds to a stretch of landscape: colour and texture can be seen all around, often in unexpected combinations.
To make the embroidered textiles, I build up layers of fabric, which are then stitched and manipulated, sometimes with a heat gun, sometimes by cutting back into the layers and always adding more stitching until I am happy with the fabric made.
The embroidered fabric is then used to make a bag - either as a whole fabric or as a panel or decorative feature.
I run a range of machine embroidery workshops at Colharbour Mill and various venues in Devon and beyond.
