Clare Benson

I draw and paint out of doors, in an area of woods and moorland on the eastern side of Dartmoor. I am interested in colour, light, the changing seasons, and details of landscape such as trees, rocks and flowing water. I often use oil pastels, and also watercolours and acrylics.
I also make textile work and paper collages based on my observational drawings. I enjoy reusing scrap materials in creative ways. A current project is to make colour studies of the same section of landscape, month by month. I have produced two series of textile panels from these, using applique with hand and machine embroidery. A series of collages based on sketches of people in conversation was exhibited at the Royal Derby Hospital in 2013.
I studied at Bath Academy of Art, and have an MA in Art History. I am a qualified teacher, and have experience of running family workshops, and organizing creative activities for children and adults.
