Billy The Fish

As a Primary Teacher I kept a tank of 10 gold fish in the classroom. They were a wonderfully calming sight and responsibility was given to the children for feeding and caring for them. Eventually the inevitable happened and one died. We organised a ‘Thank you’ burial in the school grounds and over the years that followed eventually one fish remained. When it was time for me to leave teaching none of the staff wanted to take it so it came home with me.

A View Through

This painting is based on a photograph of a view along a road and through curving trees. The dappled light left coloured blotches over the leaves and to me it looked like nature’s own firework display.

Mexico Flowers

I married Robert on June 10th 2011. We share a love of travel and adventures. For our honeymoon my husband took me to Mexico. It was amazing to see the Mayan ruins, the white sandy beaches and exotic plants. This lovely vase of flowers greeted us every morning when we went to the restaurant for breakfast.

Bali Mosaic Tapestry

After a badly sprained ankle left me sofa bound, I sketched a design for this tapestry cushion based on the beautiful mosaic dish on our coffee table. This being the original, I went on to try different colour combinations.

Misty Morning on Paignton Beach

Walking on Paignton beach very early one summer morning, the sun was just breaking the thick foggy sea mist. The light glinted off the metal railings and the pier looked as if it were a length of light hovering in the air. The sand slowly became visible and revealed footprints but no people. The whole scene gave a lift to the spirits and was a glorious start to the day.

Caren Weil

I was born in the Westcountry, growing up in Torbay. I love the sea and sun and I love to travel always returning to South Devon. I completed a B.A. (Hons) Fine Art in 1981 and after a teaching career have returned to working with textiles and paint. My creative process begins with experience of an event, place or landscape. I love to experiment, to study, and to work with colour, wanting to create pieces that are joyful and beautiful.
