I have been painting in oils for the last six years having previously training in photography.Prior to taking up oil painting I painted in watercolour for many years. I have very much enjoyed exploring in paint, the beautiful landscape around the River Dart where I live. My paintings are both representational and abstract with an emphasis on colour and texture. Much of my landscape work is on a large scale but I also very much enjoy undertaking small studies of wild life, plants and landscape  which I often paint in oil on Gesso panels.
Recently I have made a significant change in direction painting figurative and  narrative pictures inspired by the dicovery  following my mothers death, of a small note book containing discriptions and stories of her early childhood in Scotland and the North East at the time of the depression. I am currently attempting to paint the images arising from both the note book and our 'bedtime stories' told to us as children of a very different time and place to the one I grew up in. I have titled my new body of work 'Who do I think I am' and it is proving to be a challenging and very rewarding subject for developing myself as a painter.
