Register for Devon Open Studios 2012
Date Posted: 19 January 2012 Registration for the 2012 Devon Open Studios event has now opened; artists and craftspeople in the county are invited to get involved. Devon Open Studios is the largest annual art event in the county attracting around 20,000 visits to artists’ studios each year. During Devon Open Studios 2011, over 16 days in September, more than 370 artists opened their studios in 146 locations across Devon. The event was a tremendous success with total sales and commissions last year reaching over £192,000, a 21% increase compared to 2010. This year’s event will take place on 8 – 23 September and is open to any Devon-based artist or maker. The show brings together some of the top talent in the county to celebrate both established and emerging artists. The event is popular with tourists and locals alike, with many visitors to the region timing their trips to coincide with Devon Open Studios. During the event the public are given free access to meet artists, see how they work and enjoy art in our beautiful county. For artists, Devon Open Studios provides a unique opportunity to build social and professional connections with art-lovers from all over the UK. They enjoy the freedom of showing their artwork, commission free, as part of a prestigious event with national profile. Many artists continue to get commissions after the event as it provides an excellent springboard for networking with potential clients, all without leaving their studio! As one 2011 visitor said, Devon Open Studios is "a great opportunity to explore locally, be inspired to make oneself and celebrate the exuberant and vital role of the arts in Devon."
