Art by Amanda Clark
Fish 1 Ceramic sculpture
Simple things make for extraordinary art. The mind takes a snapshot of the world and imagination converts it to an object of disturbing beauty. This is often how many people experience the world and pass the time of day. But how many of them actually take the next step? How many convert their imaginings into actual sculptures?
I have always been fascinated by the world around me. The people, the light, emotions and feelings influence my work and are converted into sculptures in clay. These new objects have a life of their own and an impact on people who see them.
After studying at Falmouth College of Art I moved to Exeter graduating with a BA (hons) degree. Since then I have continued to practice art privately while working to pay for such expensive things as children and mortgages. In 2007 I met Ek Bowley and Eunice Calvert who gave me a chance to continue with my sculptural work at their gallery (Unearth) in Preston Street, Exeter. This chance was like a breath of fresh air and pushed me on to exhibit work there in December last year and take part in both the Devon and Exeter Open Studios 2009.
