Home Page for Roy North
The theme that runs through my work is the effect of light and movement. I experiment with unorthodox shapes for my paintings, incorporating the development of my own interior format to define enclosed space with trompe l’oeil results. I was born in West Yorkshire in 1946. In 1961 I won a scholarship to the Barnsley School of Art before attending the Hammersmith/Chelsea College of Art in London attaining a London Certificate in Painting in 1967.I have shown my work in many London exhibitions and received the Percy Brown Award at the West London Open in 1981 and was elected to the Selection Committee. I have also exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition as well as having annual Open Studio weeks at my studio in London as part of the ACAVA Group of artists. I moved from London to West Sussex, travelled the world, moved to the West Country and have lived and worked from my studio in Ashwater, North West Devon for the past decade, taking regular trips abroad to soak up culture and colour as inspiration for future works. | |
