Home Page for Neil Rogers

Neil Rogers is a Registered Professional woodturner. He supplies many products and services to the trade and general public from commercial turning through artistic commissions and gifts to demonstrations and tuition.

With over 18 years turning experience, Neil is one of the Westcountry’s most talented young Woodturners. With technical mastery and artistic flair he produces work of great elegance and beauty, bringing out the very best response from the wood in which he is working.

Neil began woodturning at a young age, and although initially self taught, he has subsequently studied under the internationally renowned turners Nick Agar & Tobias Kaye.

Neil is one of the founder members of Woodbury Woodturners, his local woodturning club with a 120+ strong membership. He is also on the Register of Professional Turners and a member of the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain and the Devon Artist Network.

The majority of Neil’s commissions are through recommendations, although he also sells pieces through selected retail outlets and quality craft shows. Neil confesses to being a perfectionist, and the quality of his work, both in his design and technical excellence, bears this out.

Whether you are looking for that special present or gift, a replacement stair spindle or enough for a whole staircase, Neil is happy to help with your woodturning requirements.

 Banksia Nut Coasters
NeilRogers_Banksia Nut Coasters.jpg Found in Western Australia, Banksia Grandis a bush or small tree, which attains a height of commonly 5-10m. It grows as an under story tree within Jarrah forests. Discovered by Sir Joseph Banks who travelled with Captain Cook on his discovery of Australia in 1770. The fruit produced by this tree is known as the Banksia nut. There are over 70 species of Banksia but only one produces fruit large enough to be of any commercial value for turning. The fruit may be 4 to 9 inches long with an average size of 6 inches. The nuts must be picked from the tree when mature and this can take several years. The nuts are hard and solid, with seedpods running from the outside, towards the centre core. (approx size of coasters 7/8cm dia.)
