My ceramic sculptures include a series of Fruiting Bodies, semi-abstract female figures and heads. I am fascinated by the tension between containment and growth. I work in an intuitive way, coiling and building with a heavily grogged clay and finishing pieces with oxides, slips and glazes which I draw and paint on the surface. The sculptures reference the female form, my local North Devon landscape and the things I grow in my garden. I did a degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) at Reading University in the sixties and after a career in teaching and writing am now concentrating completely on my art practice. www.eileaneland.co.uk
