Home Page for  Farms for City Children

Nethercott House near Iddesleigh is where Michael and Clare Morpurgo and founded the charity Farms for City Children in 1976.  We now operate on three farms, where urban children from all over the country come to spend a whole week living and working together, getting involved in everything necessary to keep the farm going.  For the last three years, with funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, local artists, writers and makers have been coming to working creatively with the children, helping them explore their experience on the farm.  Together they have made music, created with felt, woven willow, printed, dyed and painted.  We also have a unique photographic collection: images taken by the late James Ravilious in the 1970s hang alongside a series taken in 2006 by Chris Chapman as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations.  Come and walk around the gardens and spinney, take in the children's work, learn about what we do - and enjoy delicious home made refreshments.
