Home Page for Kevin Alexander
After a near 20 year teaching career, I found my way into the art world by taking on the ownership of a picture framing art gallery in 2002. It has been during these recent years that have had the opportunity to explore my own creative ideas and have begun to experiment with different media.
My work is more graphic/design than fine art. Never-the-less, I take my inspiration from the natural world, whether from the stunning area we live in, or from the beauty of the human form.
My line drawings fall into two groups – the first features some of my favourite spots around Torbay, in such a visually stimulating area that it hard not to be inspired at almost every turn on which ever path you tread. The second group, drawings of the human form, are drawn with a more fluid and dynamic style which results in a gentler connection with the images.
I also paint with acrylic on canvas and have explored various subjects, predominantly generating images by using a pop-art type of approach where images are broken down into a few layers of colour.
This concept of flat colour has been taken in other directions as well, resulting in my work using mountboard and painted/cut mdf. It is extraordinary how the brain fills in gaps to create complete images in the mind, even if only stimulated by a few simple shapes and colours. It is this area of my work that I hope to really explore more in the future.
